Gobi raises $500K to take on Snapchat

Norwegian start-up Gobi brought up $500,000 at a $15 million assessment to take on Snapchat with its “Stories” interaction device. The system allows customers to develop community and personal categories where customers can share pics and vids that remain around for three times before disappearing into electronic pixel-dust.

“We initially developed a Snapchat team for our higher education,” says Kristoffer Lande, Gobi’s CEO. “And the team quickly increased to 4,000 customers. Snapchat wasn’t a big fan, so they closed it down after about 24hrs. Everybody liked the group team, however, so we made a decision to develop our own app.”

One of the uses for the app is to ask for opinions; whether someone believes your footwear are hot or not, or whether you should buy a particular color of eyewear.

“The Gobi is made to put interaction on hand,” says Lars Erik Fagernæs, the company’s CTO. “We found that our customers often ask for each other’s views in the app. The Gobi now resolves this by allowing them to do it with one easy phase. The entertaining stickers can be included on top of the pictures, and then the audiences will be able to tap and communicate with them.”

The communications differ from easy up or down ballots to links, included video clips, music and much more.

A “group” can include anything from two individuals several numbers of million associates. They are often depending on passions, places, groups, multiple buddies or activities.
The organization has several investors, such as Olympic silver medalist Petter Northug and billionaire salmon farming heir Gustav Witzøe.

“The investment is a game-changer for us,” says Lande. “The product is now ready, and the investment will help us executing on our the launch strategy later this year.”

The first form of the app was initially released in Aug 2015 and has since expanded to around 70,000 customers.
