The prominent video-streaming service has released an in depth training information for making your own Netflix-themed fitness instructor. Like, in the get-off-the-couch-and-go-to-a-gym feeling of the term instructor.
The Netflix Trainer has some of the options you might find in its flesh-and-blood version, and some you definitely won't. According to the organization, it "connects to your phone or product via Wireless and uses an accelerometer to observe your action stage during your exercise." If you begin reducing down, "your chosen Netflix personality will provide inspirational terms to keep you going."
But here's where it gets nefarious: If you stop exercising, the digital trainer will pause your show. Want to binge-watch those six episodes of Black Mirror? Better get running.
Thankfully for those worried that their significant other might "gift" this to them, you can't just order one off the shelf. Some assembly of the Arduino-based device is required, with Netflix helpfully listing all the components needed on its website. And yes, you need to know how to solder.
The personal trainer is part of Netflix's Make It initiative and was born out of the company's annual Hack Day, which every year ends up birthing some random Netflix-related project. Remember Netflix Socks?
But back to the trainer.
With 14 different character voices, you can be sure it'll be your favorite Neftlix personality lecturing you about your attempts to stay fit. Like Terry Crews? You got him. How about Bojack Horseman? You know it.
And while we're not sure who would actually go to the trouble of building a personal trainer, one thing is abundantly clear: We'll never think of Netflix marathons the same way again.
